Item Description
RARE and cute thumbnail beryl crystal from one of the five extinct localities near Conover, Catawba County, North Carolina. The pretty light green, lustrous, glassy, hexagonal crystal is gemmy to translucent with striated faces. Embedded muscovite plates add much character. Complete all-around. Both ends are were contacted against the vug walls, but there is no damage, per se. 7 grams mass. Ex John Whatley Collection, a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). There are NO beryl photographic examples pictured for the 7 localities listed by MINDAT for Catawba County. Rare, perhaps unique beryl from the county.
