Beryl var. Red Beryl on Rhyolite

Red Beryl is one of those USA classics that is amazing because it really is not found anywhere else in the world - despite that beryl is so common in general. Why is that? the conditions that form these are so strange and unique, obviously. But that is also why they have such value to the collectors, and why so many specimens like this were cut for valuable gem rough over time. All of the Red Beryl crystals on this piece have central gemmy areas with excellent color and fine terminations. Trace amounts of manganese produce the stunning red color. A superb Red Beryl matrix specimen for size and balance, and impact on a shelf because these are unusually well-Isolated. These are very showy, berry-red crystals of Red Beryl on a white rhyolite matrix with the best and most stunning contrast! These all came from the Harris family claims in Utah, and it is now more or less inaccessible for further collecting. Two major lustrous, richly colored Red Beryl crystals are prominently displayed on this piece and they measure 1.4 and 0.9cm in length (with another smaller crystal in between). At least a dozen, tiny, glistening red crystals are scattered in loose clusters about the light-colored, contrasting matrix. The two larger crystals and the intermediate one are all well-terminated at one end with the other termination of these essentially hidden in the matrix. This is a fine piece for the size, and you cannot find them today. It should be valued $6000-8000.
