Item Description

Unusual piece! Most Afghani morganites have a classic front-facing hexagonal form and display angle. This rather elongated, stocky crystal is just different. A glassy and gemmy, equant, pastel pink, morganite crystal, nearly 2 inches ( 5 cm) across, is nestled aesthetically in a vug of lustrous and translucent, colorless quartz crystals to 8 cm in length. The morganite is contacted on one side and the rear (where it simply grew against another crystal in situ). There is minor damage on the back of the morganite at the contact join, but this does not affect the view on the display side as you can see. In fact, it is a very imposing piece, as well as just being unusual for the locale. The morganite is so gemmy that the viewer can see the matrix of crystallized quartz underneath through the length of the crystal. The mass is 2218 grams - so you can see it is a hefty, substantial piece. Note also the rarity of finding a morganite perched on CRYSTALLIZED quartz matrix, as they usually are simply embedded in massive albite or crystallized cleavelandite from this region. Seldom do you get the stark contrast of seeing a hexagonal morganite on the prismatic quartzes. Ex Graw Collection of Hamburg, Germany.
