Beryl var: Morganite

Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of pink Morganite Beryl from the Elizabeth R. Mine in Pala. The piece hosts a pair of fine quality, sharp, lustrous, blocky hexagonal crystals, free of matrix. The largest individual crystal measures 3.7 cm across. One of the crystals is actually doubly-terminated, though not 100% complete. My favorite aspect of the piece are the distinct first and second order pyramidal modifications that can be seen on both crystals. The crystals are also gemmy, which is not easy to find in this old material, and good crystals of Morganite are not common from this locality in any capacity these days. It's complete on the display side, but it is contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you collect gem pegmatite crystals, worldwide Beryls or minerals from Pala, don't miss out on this one, as it easily dates back 40+ years, and is a great time capsule of what the specimens looked like coming out of this locality during that period.
