Beryl var. Morganite and Quartz on Albite ex Meieran

Item Description

This is an earlier morganite specimen from the famous pegmatite gem species deposits in Laghman, Afghanistan, from the well-known gem species collections of Gene Meieran. It features a robust pink morganite crystal of approximately 6 x 4 x 3 cm, perched amongst blades of white cleavelandite, and nestled against large quartz crystals. A tiny deep blue tourmaline is an accent atop. This would have been one of the older specimens in the collection, and for something from the 1990s would have been considered quite nice for the time, although better specimens have come out since. The contrast of the pink, white, and milky quartz behind is interesting, and the piece overall is jumbly and yet somehow also sculptural because of the contrast of shapes. Note the unusual terminations on the quartz. No repairs, or damage, which is unusual for matrix specimens of this size. Valued $5000-7500, and from the Gene Meieran Collection.
