Morganite crystals are not found from many world localities in fine, well-formed gem crystallized examples. This is a good quality miniature sized piece of from Afghanistan dating back to the early 2000s. Good specimens from Afghanistan haven't been in decent supply for several years now, as the sources are drying up. There hasn't been much found in places like Brazil or San Diego County, CA either, so you really have to search for good Morganites these days. This piece is an attractive GEMMY, thick tabular crystal with lustrous pinacoid {0001} faces and alternating frosted and lustrous faces on the prisms and pyramidal modifying faces. The crystal is largely complete, but it's contacted on the lower half where it was removed from the pocket wall. It's so gemmy in the middle that it would yield a very nice faceted stone. Specimen weight is 52.74 grams. Valued $950.
