Beryl var: Heliodor (rare locality)

While there are many Beryl localities in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, specimens from the nearby state of Goiás are incredibly hard to find. This piece is a rather sharp, and notably lustrous hexagonal prism of Heliodor Beryl with silky translucent interior and a gentle golden-yellow hue, free of matrix. The piece is in good shape overall, though there are some nicks in a few places, so it's not 100% pristine, but the high surface luster (both on the prism faces and the basal pinacoid) is excellent. I can't remember ever having a single crystal of Heliodor from Goiás to offer in the auctions, and this one isn't just an esoteric locality specimen, it's a good quality Beryl that would make a fine addition to any gem crystal collection or a suite of Brazilian minerals. Specimen weight is 15.9 grams.
From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
