Item Description

The Pingwu Mine in China is a distinctive locality, world-famous for producing some truly unique, eye-catching and singular display specimens from any mine in the entire country. Certainly some of the most desirable and fine quality crystallized specimens of Beryl in the world have come from this mine. What makes these crystals so impressive is not only the quality (luster, form, sharpness), but they have a notably thick tabular habit, which is not often seen in Beryl (aside from Morganite). This piece features a superb, beautiful, sharp, glassy, GEM QUALITY, thick, tabular colorless Beryl (Goshenite) measuring 3.6 cm sitting aesthetically on bladed silvery Muscovite with little black crystals of Cassiterite. The quality is VERY good and it's in great condition all the way around. I cannot find any major damage on the Goshenite, just a small point of attachment on the lower corner where it was connected to pocket wall. A truly fine specimen of this unique, contemporary classic material.
Valued $6,000-$7,000.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 3494. Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
