Item Description

Here we have a rarely seen, fine quality example of Goshenite, the varietal name given to colorless gem quality Beryl crystals. The term originated from the town of Goshen, Massachusetts, where the first colorless Beryl crystals were reported. This piece is a beautiful, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, translucent prismatic crystal with no matrix. The piece has an almost "ice"-like quality, with beautiful internal features when backlit. It's hard to find such complete / intact crystals of Goshenite like this from Brazil, with no etching) and it's larger than most you'll encounter, making it even more desirable. Specimen weight is 80.4 grams. Beautiful and rare to find on the market these days, as it quite old dating back to the 1960s-1970s era of mining. Valued $1,750.
From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
