Item Description
A wonderful old-time Aquamarine specimen from the famous Padre Paraíso locality in Brazil, mined in the 1980s. The piece is not a typical Beryl as it has a unique termination, filled with many sharp, pyramidal "teeth"-like points which are actually fully-crystallized - not etched - creating a one-of-a-kind specimen. The crystal has the classic deep blue color often seen from this locality, it's almost too dark to be considered Aquamarine, you almost have to think of as "Blue Beryl", since Aquamarine is supposed to resemble the color of the sea, and this is honestly a richer blue shade. The crystal is complete all around, with good luster everywhere, and a bit of attached cream colored Albite makes for a nice touch. Keep in mind, the majority of the Beryl crystals from this locality are fairly etched, and this one is sharp, well-formed and euhedral, making it much rarer and more desirable in my mind. It's certainly the most distinctive and interesting examples of this classic material that we've had to offer, and would make a fine addition to any gem crystal suite, a Beryl collection or a collection of Brazilian minerals. Valued $1,800
Ex Brian Kosnar specimen.
