Beryl var. Aquamarine (rare USA locale)

Item Description

This is a thick, robust aquamarine crystal with an excellent pastel blue color and very good luster, even by global standards for aquamarine. Large, sharp aquamarine crystals are quite uncommon in this region. The termination shows a clear growth texture that are small hexagonal aquamarine faces. For reasons not entirely understood, San Diego County tends to produce more tourmalines and morganites, with true aquamarines of any quality being exceedingly rare. This mine is primarily known for quartz rather than beryl, making this 1980s find particularly special. 162 grams! Comes with a custom base, as well. The specimen is from the esteemed William "Bill" Larson Collection, adding to its significance. Ex Bill Larson to Arkenstone to Mary Perry, later to Jingnan (Tom) Zhang.
