Beryl (var: Aquamarine) (GEM QUALITY) (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

This specimen dates back to a find in early 1970s. It's a wonderful GEM quality Aquamarine specimen from the classic Padre Paraiso in Brazil. The piece is a single, etched, glassy, soft blue color crystal free of matrix. The piece is a complete "floater" with no damage or point of attachment anywhere. I love the wonderful etching patterns, forms and ethereal shapes that you can see all over the specimen. Keep in mind that this piece was a big deal back in the day as it was found at a time when there were no gem Aqua crystals from Pakistan or Namibia on the market, and it was a great rarity to find gemmy, crystals like this from any locality. The piece comes from the collection of the well-known mineral dealer and collector Richard ("Rich") Kosnar (1946-2007). Rich was the namesake for the phosphate mineral Kosnarite. He made a name for himself in his youth by traveling to Brazil often in the 1970s and brought back many significant gem mineral specimens. This specimen is valued at $1,500. Specimen weight is 29.33 grams.
