Item Description

Aquamarine is the varietal name given to light blue colored (and sometimes greenish-blue colored) Beryl crystals. In the modern era of mineral collecting, there is no doubt that some of the finest world-class Aquamarine specimens ever found are those from the various pegmatite localities in the high mountains of Pakistan. For a few decades now, I think it's fair to say that Pakistan has been the most productive or at least the most impressive country for Aquamarine specimens. This attractive and showy crystal is a fantastic, unique, doubly-terminated "floater" crystal showing many thin "teeth-like" terminations on both ends, and when the crystal is rotated in the light, you can see a gorgeous chatoyant "cat's eye" effect on one end, while the other end is virtually WATER-CLEAR. There is a great combination of the etching on the terminations, and the notably smooth and lustrous prism faces the run the length of the crystal. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the piece is the fact that there are not just your typical six prism faces, but there are actually some thin second order modifying prism faces, which is not commonly seen in Beryl from Pakistan. The color is a very pleasing blue shade that really glows and catches the eye. A wonderful, striking specimen of this classic and iconic material. Specimen weight is 37.80 grams.
Valued $2,500.
