Item Description

Mt. Antero is one of the great old gem crystal localities in the Western US. This famous 14,000+ foot peak in Colorado, is the highest summit of the southern Sawatch Range. It is famous for its superb Aquamarine crystals, beloved for their rich color and excellent gemminess. These specimens have been mined since the 1880s and collecting continues to this day. This prodigious peak is one of the more rugged localities for field collecting in the state. This piece is an attractive example featuring a 9 mm hexagonal prism sitting on beige Microcline. The Aqua has a good saturated blue color and moderate translucency when backlit. The termination is complete and undamaged as far as I can see with the naked eye. A wonderful old example of these famous and beloved Aquas.
