Beryl var: Aquamarine (classic locality)

Item Description

An attractive Aquamarine crystals from the classic locality at Medina, Brazil. These crystals are often darker than more contemporary Aquas from Pakistan, and are certainly less common on the market. This piece features a classic, beautiful, gemmy/translucent, lustrous, saturated blue color, hexagonal prism with smooth faces on all sides, accompanied by a smaller "sidecar" crystal on the base of the piece. Attractive small pyramidal modifications can be seen on the termination for a nice touch. There are some nicks, along with a couple "fish eye" contacts near the termination, so the piece is not pristine, but still a nice example of this classic material. The crystal was mined in the early 1980s, and comes from the collection of Richard Kosnar, the famous mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, who had a strong presence in Brazil bringing back a large quantity of pegmatite minerals during that time. Specimen weight is 30.46 grams.
