Item Description
A fantastic, GEMMY miniature sized Aquamarine crystal from a find in the 1970s. This is a wonderful quality specimen from what used to be called the Mimoso do Sul Mine featuring a beautiful light blue color with well-formed, lustrous, prismatic hexagonal faces and some lovely light etching on the surface. The upper portion of the crystal features some "tube"-like inclusions - some of which have a bit of light tan colored clay, creating a nice contrast of color. No damage I can find, outside of the base where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Keep in mind that this piece was a big deal back in the day as it was found at a time when there were no gem Aqua crystals from Pakistan or Namibia on the market, and it was a great rarity to find GEMMY, euhedral crystals like this from any locality.
The piece comes from the collection of the well-known dealer Richard Kosnar (the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite) who made a name for himself in his early days a mineral dealer by traveling to Brazil often in the 1970s. Rich brought back many significant gem mineral specimens and assorted rarities during his travel. Specimen weight is 16.33 grams.
