Beryl (unusually colored crystals) (ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection)

Item Description

A cool miniature sized piece of these attractive an unusual Beryl specimens from Erongo. These specimens are some of the most distinctive Beryls from any world locality for their odd coloring. This piece hosts a few sharp, well-formed, prismatic hexagonal crystals of Beryl measuring up to 3.1 cm which feature a rich golden color on the terminations, but if you look at the underside of the piece, the base of the crystals are actually blue. While the prism faces are frosted, the basal terminations are notably lustrous, and actually gemmy, so you can actually look into the crystals from the top. Certainly a different style for Beryl compared to crystals from most localities. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
