Item Description
Outstanding and rare matrix beryl from a less well-known Oxford County, Maine pegmatite area - Stow. Two striking beryl crystals are aesthetically set on the sculptural smoky quartz, muscovite and feldspar matrix. The impressive large sharp 7.8 cm crystal is pastel-green, lustrous and translucent with one repair. The smaller prism is 5.2 cm long, layered with mottled pastel-green color and actually has gemmy sections. UV light shows that this crystal is pristine and that a few fractures are all natural, with no glue visible (although it possibly could be repaired nonetheless with a nonfluorescent glue, though we think not). The large crystal has an undamaged contacted termination and the small crystal is terminated. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1984. A classic, rare, exceptional and probably old-time beryl from this Maine locality.
