Item Description
A cool old Beryl specimen simply labeled as coming from "Stow, Maine" featuring a pair of good quality, sharp, lustrous, soft blue-green colored hexagonal prisms measuring up to 5.3 cm long sitting on a massive piece of grey Smoky Quartz matrix. The main Beryl crystal (let's call it Aquamarine) is actually doubly-terminated, but just barely, while the smaller crystal is contacted on each end. The larger Beryl is clearly repaired, as the glue used to hold it together has discolored over time, but it's not uncommon to have to repair this kind of material, as they are often found in collapsed pockets. It's rare to find matrix specimen of this material however, and even if it has been repaired, it's still a showy and three dimensional display specimen of this incredibly hard to find material from Maine. The label on the inside of the oversized "perky" box mentions the year 1974, though I don't know if that is when it was collected or acquired. A cool piece for any fan of New England minerals, worldwide Beryls or strictly minerals of Maine. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
