Item Description
The Oceanview Mine in San Diego County, California is best-known for its superb GEM Kunzite crystals, but it has also produced some excellent examples of Beryl, found in multiple colors. This piece is a lovely matrix display specimen hosting a well-formed, sharp, lustrous, doubly-terminated, stout hexagonal crystal measuring 4.1 cm, sitting on a layer of bladed white Albite var: Cleavelandite. The color of the Beryl is a gentle tone, and it depends under which temperature of lighting the piece is viewed, but you can see a light pink hue in the video. No damage that I can find, only a small separation mark on the back edge of the Beryl where it was removed from the pocket wall. These are not easy to find on the market now, and a fine display specimen like this is certainly desirable, and would make a great addition to any collection of Beryls, pegmatite minerals or specimens from San Diego County.
From the collection of Bill ("Burma Bill") Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer (Pala International) as well as a miner and collector. Bill traveled the world for decades in search of fine gems and minerals, and was directly involved in the in-person acquisition and importation of superb specimens from many important gem-producing localities.
