Item Description

A classic and rarely seen Beryl specimen from this historic locality that dates back to just after the Revolutionary War. The Avondale Quarry (sometimes called Leiper's Upper Avondale Quarry) was opened in by Thomas Leiper 1785 and closed 1945. It is a classic granitic pegmatite and specimens are exceptionally rare to find on the market. This piece hosts an unusual, yet attractive "curved" crystal of opaque, yellow-green color prismatic Beryl which is associated with massive red Almandine and metallic silvery-black Muscovite on feldspar. The "curved" Beryl crystal measures 4.0 cm long, and has rather sharp, well-defined faces with good luster. One of the VERY few specimens of this classic material that I have handled. From the Rich Kosnar collection.
