Item Description
Benstonite is a very rare and complex carbonate species, with the finest examples extent coming from Southern Illinois. Specimens were found only sporadically, in small pockets, in the older days of this famous mine. Nubby mounded clusters of highly lustrous and translucent, flattened straw-yellow rhombs cover this outstanding large plate on massive benstonite matrix. This is an extremely rich specimen of the species. RARE on the market. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired in 1966, when these were coming out. Valued at $1000-1250 - this is a real rarity from this district and among best of species for the mineral for any locale. They are few and far between today.
