Item Description

Unusual specimen of integrown, LARGE Benitoite crystals up to 2.2 cm on edge. The Benitoites, for which this is the TYPE LOCALITY, have highly-modified faces, and huge size. True, they are not blue - this rare style generally goes to larger crystals but the tradeoff is that they are included with thick masses of something often called simply Crossite that looks like clay. Even so, there are small exposures of blue Benitoite along the edges and the blue-white fluorescence that is characteristic of Benitoite remains quite strong. From the large worldwide collection of historical minerals, of George Elling of New Jersey. These large specimens are quite rare and although a little color challenged compared to the more traditional "blue triangles", are still significant for the species and valued highly.
