This very fine miniature is a classic example of Benitoite, one of the rarest and most sought-after gemstone mineral species in the world. Classic for the California State Gem Mine (formerly the Benitoite Mine or the Dallas Gem Mine), which is the TYPE LOCALITY, the Benitoites are sapphire blue, nicely translucent, and they range up to 1.6 cm. Their particular habit is also quite rare, and virtually unique.They are associated with sharp, lustrous, prismatic Neptunites. There may even be a small amount of reddish Joacquinite (TL) on the back, and all are on a matrix of white Natrolite. The blue-white fluorescence is also classic for the species.This miniature is an aesthetic and rich example of this great mineral. valued $2000-2500
