Item Description

Benitoite is one of the most minerals that is almost exclusively tied to a single world locality, because the breadth and quality of the specimens found dwarfed every other locality in the world combined. The world-class specimens from the famous Gem Mine in San Benito County, California are highly valued and coveted by collectors. This piece is a wonderful miniature specimen featuring a large (2.2 cm), translucent, classic, beautiful sapphire blue colored trigonal crystal of Benitoite associated with white Natrolite on grey-blue Crossite matrix. Any Benitoite crystal that is approaching an inch is certainly considered large for the species. I can see one small nick on the upper corner of the crystal, but it's still a very attractive and worthwhile example of these desirable classics from one of the most well-known localities in the United States. From the collection of Colin Manlove.
