Item Description

A first for me as I have never seen specimen of this material from this locality. Bright yellow groups of the very rare magnesium uranyl carbonate Bayleyite associated with minor yellow-green spots of Schrockingerite which is a sodium calcium uranyl carbonate. This material is almost exclusively found in the western United States, and even though Schrockingerite is reported from this locality, Bayleyite is not according to all literature I've researched. A tremendous rarity for any collector, and a great opportunity to pick up a really cool specimen from Wyoming for your collection. It should be noted that Bayleyite can dehydrate, and turn into a powder over time, so please keep this in mind when bidding. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand written label from Wulff.
