Item Description
A wonderful specimen of the uncommon beryllium silicate, Bavenite from the world famous Foote Mine in North Carolina. The lithia-bearing pegmatites at this mine have produced countless specimens featuring beautiful micro crystals of many phosphates and silicates, and the Bavenite "sprays" from this locality are certainly among the most celebrated. This particular piece features a small crystallized vug with micro "needles" of white / colorless Bavenite in pegmatite host rock matrix. The piece originally came from the collection of Roger and Peg Marble (#3914), whose collection was distributed by the Rocksmiths circa 1980. The piece was purchased by Colorado geologist, Allen Heyl (Aheylite) and resided in his collection (#3873) until his death a few years ago. According to Allen's label, there are two unidentified minerals on the speicmen, so this is a great opportunity for you micro collectors to pick up an intriguing specimen from this prolific locality and do a bit of research to see what lies in the little vugs and crooks.
