Item Description
A rarely seen specimen of Bauxite from a fairly obscure locality in Croatia. It should be noted that the given locality has not been reported for Bauxite on any database or online reference that I can find. Bauxite is not an actual species, but rather a mixture of Gibbsite, Boehmite and Diaspore mixed with iron oxides like Goethite and Hematite, along with the clay mineral Kaolinite and sometimes small amounts of Anatase and Ilmenite. Bauxite is actually is the world's main source of aluminium. This piece is a characteristic Bauxite with a semi-rounded apperance and small dendrites of Goethite or Hematie on the exterior. Rare stuff to be sure, as this is the only piece of Bauxite I've ever handled from Croatia. From the collection of Renaud Vochten.
