Item Description

Striking orbicular bauxite nodules are embedded in weathered syenite matrix on the striking Arkansas specimen. Bauxite is the primary aluminium ore. Primary USA deposits were located in Arkansas, where production started in about 1894 and ceased in 1985. It is a mixture and rock, comprised of iron and aluminium hydroxides/oxides. This is a classic example of the species and locale. Older material from the Dennis Mullane Collection. The Burminco label dates from the 1950s-60s.
