Item Description

A massive piece of dark brown Bastnasite from St Peters Dome which is known for its rare earth minerals. I don't know specifically what species of Bastnasite this is, but I'm assuming it's Basnasite-(Ce). I've honestly never seen a piece of the material before, and even though this won't win any competitions for the prettiest specimen, it's still a cool old time reference piece from this historic locality in central Colorado. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand-written label from Wulff's collection.
