Item Description
Robust, large-sized at 3.4 cm across, tabular, hexagonal Bastnasite-(Ce) crystal from Zagi Mountain, the world's best locality for the species. The mottled, yellowish-brown prism has moderate luster. The distinctive pits and nice golden-orange edge translucence on one side add much character. Bastnasite-(Ce) is an anhydrous cerium carbonate with a halogen. The host rock is a gneissic alkaline granite. See the 2004 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 35, No. 3. A highly representative and rather large crystal from the noted locale.
