Item Description

Barytocalcite is an uncommon barium, calcium carbonate, and the Nentsberry Haggs Mine is actually very close to Barytocalcite's type locality, all within England's historic Alston Moor District. This fine, small cabinet specimen has an abundance of honey-colored Barytocalcites, in single crystals up to 8 mm or clusters. Well-formed and lustrous, these crystals are commonly gemmy, and the white associated mineral is likely Witherite, with its blue-white fluorescence. The Barytocalcite itself has a distinct, reddish pink fluorescence that is unusual and attractive. Collecting from this famous old Pb-Zn-fluorite-baryte mine's 2nd Sun Vein spanned numerous decades, so it is unclear exactly when this select piece came out, but for certain we are glad that it did. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Ex Lindsay Greenbank with label.
