Barytocalcite ex. Halpern Collection

This is a fine example of Barytocalcite, an uncommon barium, calcium carbonate that is often mislabelled in old collections. The white, bladed Barytocalcites completely cover the matrix, and most of these sharp crystals are in good condition. This old-time, showy piece is from the famous Nentsberry Haggs Mine, Alston Moor, England. Jack's number is 884, so it was acquired a long time ago, in the early 1970s. It includes an old AL McGuiness label calling it "witherite" and a correction later. McGuiness notes it was from a colelctor named A. Walshaw of Wstmoreland. The piece is unusually aesthetic for what this is, and a classic in excellent condition. Valued $1250
