Item Description
The Elmwood Mine is a large zinc deposit in Tennessee that was discovered in 1969. In the subsequent years, it has produced some of the most iconic minerals from any US locality. Honestly there are only about a dozen species found at this mine, but several of them are signature examples, and iconic among collectors. This piece is a beautiful cabinet sized specimen featuring a pair of "snowball"-esque groups of soft beige colored Baryte measuring up to 4.1 cm across, sitting on dark reddish-brown "ruby jack" Sphalerite, with individual crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, and associated with accenting "jewel"-like scalenohedra of golden Calcite measuring up to 1.4 cm long on matrix. The piece is in fine condition, with no major damage that I can find, and it displays quite nicely from a few angles.
From the collection of Rick Dalrymple
