Baryte with phantoms (Reynolds Coll.)

Item Description

A striking, stout, sharp, 6.3 (on edge) x 6.3 x 2.1 cm spearpoint dominates this imposing, sculptural large mounded barite specimen from the well-known Xikuangshan Mine, the world's largest antimony deposit. The interior bi-colored phantoms dramatically accent the very glassy, lustrous, transparent to translucent prisms. Essentially pristine, with only trivial edge wear. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. The deposit is famous for world-class stibnite, calcite, stibiconite and senarmontite specimens and excellent barite specimens, such as this very fine example.
