Baryte with Malachite inclusions

Baryte from the Democratic Republic of Congo, or anywhere in Africa, is rare enough. GREEN baryte, though, that was a shocker when it came to market! This came out in the mid 1990s and was considered one of the more surprising mineral combinations because the combination is so rarely heard of or seen in nature, and the beauty of these specimens is unique and dramatic without any subtlety. The contrast of color and texture remains unique to this day - I am not aware of matching finds anywhere else that compare. This fine small cabinet specimen has large, sharp crystals to 3.5 cm, very translucent to transparent at tips, complete, and without damage. It is an exceptional example of the find and would have been valued quite highly even when they came out. It is complete all around. It has good color, as far as these go - and again, unique among barytes. Valued $2000-plus.
