Item Description
One of the best examples of this very rarely seen material from the Julcani Mine featuring several fine quality, thin, tabular white bladed crystals of Baryte measuring up to 4.2 cm long, aesthetically flaring out of a matrix composed of massive Baryte that plays hosts to excellent, well-formed, dark grey-black colored, prismatic crystals of Enargite measuring up to 2.0 cm, flaring out in multiple directions. The Barytes even have a bit of gemminess/translucency near the top portions of the crystals, which is rare for this material, as they're almost always opaque. The piece is in very good condition, though I can see a few small bruises in a couple spots. It's certainly aesthetic, very showy and actually sits on its own without the aid of a base or clay. These came out years ago (if memory serves, they were found in the 1980s) and they certainly RARE on the market today. A really choice piece that would certainly fill a spot in any collection, and I'm sure most collectors today have probably never seen one in person. Valued $1,250-$,1500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#82 Pe), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
