Item Description
Old-time rare "Oakstone" stalactitic baryte is a highly desirable English species found in only two localities in Derbyshire. It is a pseudostalactitic banded variety of crystalline barite, so named for the obvious resemblance to the tree rings of local oak trees. This polished and sawed curved end cap specimen has exceptional form. This classic and very fine old-time specimen certainly dates to prior to World War I and could be much older, with the faded and very old label glued to it. From an East Coast collection. Although no specific locality was given, we believe this is the correct assignment based on other photos online of these rare old classics.
