Item Description
Specimens from the historic Juanita Mine (near the Kelly Mine) in New Mexico are seldom seen on the market these days. According to the entry on mindat.org, the mine closed in 1937, so most pieces you'll find apparently are close to 100 years old. This piece is a showy and good quality example featuring sharp, well-formed, thin blades of Baryte measuring up to 2.4 cm, aesthetically perched atop matrix. The Barytes have a bit of an iron oxide coating, giving the piece a bit of added color/contrast, but they are essentially white/colorless. Very little damage, and the piece is presentable from a few angles. A lovely piece of this notably hard to find material from what is the "oldest claim in the Kelly region" according to mindat.
