Baryte (uncommon from this locality)

Baryte is not necessarily rare from the Huanzala Mine, but it's rare to find excellent cabinet sized display specimens like this. Most of the Baryte crystals you'll see from this mine are accessory species to another mineral or two, but THIS piece is loaded with superb, sharp, very well-formed, lustrous, white bladed crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm on the front/display side, and the reverse side is filled with bright metallic golden crystals of Pyrite with a bit of gentle gun metal grey Galena. Most of the Barytes are in good condition, though I can see a few nicks in some spots. If you collect Baryte as a species or you're a fan of minerals from Peru, this is a fairly significant example in a full cabinet size with superb displayability. Valued $1,200.
