Item Description
A classic location combination I have not seen since the 1980s, of a unique style : Snow-white spherical aggregates of tiny barite blades are richly and dramatically peppered with sharp, lustrous, translucent canary-yellow sulfur crystals, to 1.0 cm, on the large sculptural elongated specimen. This well-known open pit sulfur mine is famous for excellent sulfur, barite and celestine specimens. This combination of snow-white barite with bright yellow sharp bright yellow sulfur crystals is very uncommon from the Machow Mine and this is an exceptional large combination example. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. See the 1992 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 23, No. 1. Sulfur mining began in the 15th century here!
