Item Description

Classic, floral-like classic intergrown barite "roses" from Oklahoma. This large sculptural 360-degree cluster was formed in the Permian-aged Garber Sandstone. Oxidized sand grains are included in the barite crystal structure with dramatic and colorful effect. Trivial bruising and/or attachments are typical for such large pieces and are certainly only a modest detraction. Choice and aesthetic large 360-degree material. These are the Oklahoma State Rock. Old-time material from the Al Kidwell Collection. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. Every rotation presents a different perspective to this excellent piece.
