Item Description
Limonite, some beautifully iridescent, richly covers both sides of this impressive and RARE large two-sided, terminated barite crystal from the well-known Mex-Tex Mine at Bingham. The blade is very glassy, translucent with pearlescent lustre. Two edges have classic beveled edges with the third edge being flat. Undamaged contacts on the cute front "window" and back reveal the true nature of the crystal. Very nearly pristine, with only trivial edge wear. See the 1989 Mineralogical Record New Mexico issue, Vol. 20, No. 1. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. Hefty at 385 grams mass (about a pound). A RARE, older, seldom seen style of large barite from the mine.
