Item Description
Blocky, lustrous, translucent, honey-brown, barite crystals cover this impressive and excellent large plate from a very obscure locale north of the well-known baryte locale of Indian Head Rock. Some of the two-toned crystals have a preferential secondary barite overgrowth giving them a frosted look. The complimentary white crust is calcite. The largest interior crystal is 2.8 cm and a broken crystal on the periphery is 3.4 cm long. The interiors of some of the crystals have striking gemmy flashes. The interior is pristine and the periphery wear is certainly not a detraction. The calcite crust fluoresceces violet and ONLY the frosted baryte faces fluoresce mustard-green. A very high quality and rare large plate of the species and locale from the Bob Trimingham Collection. Purchased from the field collector, Bob Cannon in 1980, according to Bob's label. Valued $600-800 for quality, rarity and size.
