Baryte on Quartz

Item Description

This is a fine small cabinet piece consisting of a spray of lightly Hematite dusted Quartz crystals festooned with tabular Baryte blades from China. The cluster of glassy, perfectly water-clear Quartz spikes to 5 cm are beautifully accented with lustrous, doubly terminated, almost diamond-shaped Baryte crystals from 1.5 to 3 cm across. The white Baryte crystals are translucent to almost transparent with well-formed faces and edges. The piece has great composition and balance with just the right amount of subtle contrast between the Quartz that is lightly dusted in pinkish red Hematite in places, the glassy portions of the Quartz crystals and the translucent white Baryte the conceals the Quartz crystal terminations. Specimens like this have come out a few times from China, but this is likely from the early 2000s.
