Baryte on Orpiment (American Mineral Treasures specimen)

Item Description

A unique specimen, with a doubly-terminated 4.3-cm-long baryte crystal perched on a mass of dark orpiment! This is a very rare association, from the late 1990s mining here. It comes from one of the major Nevada colelctions, of Scott Kleine. The piece was featured in the American Mineral Treasures exhibition cases (40 cases, each for a major USA locality), at the Tucson show in 2008. Scott was the collector in charge of that case, and also wrote the chapter in the companion book American Mineral treasures. This is from his personal collection, as noted on the label. Scott valued this at $3500 and only recently parted with it after holding for 20 years in his collection.
