Item Description

Barite on fluorite combinations are RARE from this mine, the last fluorite mine to close in this well-known district in 1987. A sculptural 5.6 cm cluster of parallel-growth barite blades is dramatically set on the mounded matrix of glassy, transparent to translucent, stepped-growth, grayish-green fluorite cubes with frosted faces. Scattered iron oxide tinting adds character and contrast. The noted contacting to the top of the barite cluster is hardly visible and has little impact to the high quality of this excellent combination specimen. RARE and choice old-time combination material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 5942. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
