Baryte on Fluorite (Minette & Reynolds Coll.)

Cute rosettes and clusters of parallel-growth glassy, light straw-yellow barite blades are nicely scattered on the intergrown purple fluorite cubes from the famous Minerva Mine. The sculptural isolated rosette on the upper left is 1.8 x 1.6 cm. The shimmering satin lustre of the frosted stepped-growth cube faces adds character. The purple cubes appear to be nearly opaque, but back lighting reveals surprising translucence with edge phantoms and bitumen inclusions being visible. The purple fluorite grades to amber on the back. Previously in the Minette Collection, prominent California collectors. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum.
