Item Description

An attractive specimen from Southern Illinois featuring no Fluorite, but rather beautiful, sharp, lustrous, bright white to colorless bladed crystals of Baryte measuring up to 7 mm long sitting on beige colored scalenohedral Calcite crystals. The underside of the piece is slightly hollow, and I can't tell if it's a "cast" or just an incomplete growth, but it's really eye-catching. The Barytes are gorgeous up close and really good quality for the locality. Good matrix display specimens of Baryte are not terribly common from this mine, especially in this style, so if you collect minerals of Hardin Count, don't miss out.
The piece comes from Keith Williams with a label from Ron L. Sohn Minerals.
