Baryte on Calcite

This is a large cabinet example of a 1990s USA classic find, a majestic specimen of golden baryte crystals to 2 inches (5 cm), gemmy and sparkling, perched upon crystallized white calcite! These were brought out of a few pockets in the 1990s and those few with good aesthetics and condition, and a combination of baryte on contrasting calcite matrix like this, instantly became USA treasures, in this size and quality. We have not seen such pieces turn up in decades, except as collections recycle. This was purchased for the museum at the time they came out (when Baryte was still spelled the better and more logical way as Barite! - as on the accompanying museum display label). Few enough large pieces had any aesthetic combination at all, and this specimen has a ribbon of gemmy crystals running atop. It is easily displayed, and has no damage of note. Valued $7500-plus.
